Ok so I just installed my 3.5 lift I got of a buddy's Xj for $140 I only got the front done and half the back befor having to go out of town for work but that's beside the point. This is the first time I've lifted a jeep on my own and I'm curious if I need to upgrade anything else.
Here's my list so far;-shocks, extended break lines, and a transfer case drop for now till I can get a sye, any thing else I'm over looking? Thinking maybe a zj drop pitman arm.

what did you get off the other XJ? A basic 3.5 short arm should consist of:
coils
shocks
control arms
adj trac bar
extended brakes line
leaf pack
sye

thats all you need for now. eventually a trackbar is a nice upgrade, but you dont need the pitman arm to be changed.

What type of lift is it and how is it being lifted (spacers, shackles, leafs, etc?) You don't need a pitman arm, don't waste money on a t case drop until it's all together and you see if you need one, if you're just on stock lower control arms then you don't need to extend brakes; just bend and remount the brake line in a lower location, for the back just unclip it from the axle and bend it a little. You will need to relocate your track bar mount.

A basic 3.5" short arm kit should not consist of an sye...

I would do adj track bar for sure though.

All I got were coils springs and shocks but the shocks are garbage, I'm not sure the brand. It's a super old lift, shocks say rugged trail or something, it's a 5 speed. And I got the driveshaft that extends with suspension movement.

So what are you doing about the back? My list still seems to be about right, an adjustable track bar is nice but if you're on a budget or cheap then just relocating the mounting hole should be fine

if you are keeping the sway bar your going to have to get disco, and with the brake lines just un hook them from the body and relocate and if not you can get yj front brake lines they are longer,
t case drop your not going to need and i don't think you need a drop pitman arm
definely get a adjustable track bar , if you plan on going higher spend the extra coin and get one with the fram side bracket

You'll be alright to wait on the track bar. But don't use any kind of trackbar relocation bracket. It will throw off your drag link to track bar angle and you'll develop bump steer. When you have the cash, I reccomend the iron rock offroad hd set up. I paid roughly $200 for it

I'm just saying drill a new hole on the axle plate if he doesn't have the cash to spend on the adjustable. Clayton is also a great and really beefy upgrade, I can't wait to install it. Right now I'm on stock with a relocated mount but didn't do it right so the axle is pulled on the passenger side about half an inch

The axel seems centered and it doesn't pull left or right when driving. I don't want to sound completely ignorant but I don't fully understand what the track bar does..

Maybe not for you but for me when I lifted it my axle was well over an inch on the drivers side and wasn't safe to drive on a high-way in it's stock place

Ill look and check things out when I get back into town. I haven't been able to drive it for a year almost cause I lost my license for speeding tickets. I'm so anxious to get the lift done and get it going as soon as I get in ill be able to go get my license!! Go me! Haha, what will I need to look at to tell if I need to adjust the track bar? The centering of the axel?
