249 to 242 swap......I know....help
Okay so I have a 1995 Zj with the 249 transfer case. I have a doner case 242 out of a 98 laredo. ....my front drive shaft bolts are stripped before I ever touched it....so I figured I could swap out the linkage and the back half of the 242..onto my front of 249. I know Search search search I have read countless forums and sites for weeks. No one likes to post pictures lol. There is 100's of different answers. Any help would be *****in. This thread can be deleted after or if I get some clarification
Thanks
Thanks

Well, I wanted to just use my front 249, cause the bolts are striped on the yoke holding the drive shift (obviously I'll have to deal with this at some point) so I swapped the linkage to my 249 and was going to put the rear of the 242 on.....but the gear on the back of the yoke is different and the chains are different so I need to get my drive shaft off anyway. .....idk. I may just buy another 242 and only fudge with the imput shaft. Cause I have both cases ripped into pieces lol.

I'm going to need to upload a few more pics to walk you through this I guess.
Where are you located?
However, all you use from your 249 is the case half and input assembly pictured to the left in this pic. Everything else comes from the 242. You need to very carefully drill a 3/8" hole in the 249 casehalf for the shift rail roll pin.. you can see this on the 242 front half.
I'll try to upload them tonight..
Here is a completed hybrid minus the back half.

This is the thread to read on a swap.. theres more to it than just swapping an input. Read the first post and check your vintage.. see if the gearcut is gonna work and if the input is the same length..

Now.. if you just resign yourself to using the 249 front half and input assembly, your guaranteed a compatible outcome. Just do a bit more reading..

Yea basically I'm at a point were I just need to swap yoke gears so the chain works...but when I swapped my shifter forks and all that over it just doesn't feel right. But it seems like it went together correct, I mean there isn't much there. I'll get it this weekend. I hope. Lol
Thanks for all your input sir
