Default Np242 clocking tips

I've been reading how easy it is to clock your t/c. Decided to do mine. What I didn't realize is how much bigger the 242 is than the 231! The 242 is more than 3" taller & 1" longer than the 231. This makes a huge difference in floor board clearance! I had to dent in my floor around an inch plus clearance my 242 to get it to fit!

Clearance unused protrusions on t/c

For the shift bracket, I welded a tab to the top, then fitted it in place & marked it for drilling after drilling the t/c clocking holes with the IRO tool.

This kept the shift linkage at the stock angle and location.

Oh, and make darn sure your holes are straight! Had to straighten mine
Hope this helps fellow 242 users!

Heres what im saying tj/wrangler trans are drilled different which shifts transfer case higher. Where xj s are drilled lower trans fer case hangs more. I have a nv3550 out of a 2000 tj my crossmeber is dropped all ready so theres no clearence issue. Future plans are to reclock min where xj holes are.

Stock XJ AW4 tranny. I have a poly Trans mount and a Manuel Trans crossmember so it is already 3/4" lower than stock. It all works now, just was more work than I expected. Thought I'd post up what i learned the hard way to help others

Why would you use the XJ holes? Seems opposite of what you'd wanna do. Looks like the TJ holes are where my clocked holes are.

tj hole rotes case clock wise which bring case higher on driver side. Xj holes rotate case counter clock wise which brings driver side lower .
