What the tire says on the sidewall isnt exactly how tall the tire actually is....
I run goodyear duratracs in 265/75 on stock icon wheels. Im lifted with a rubicon express 3.5" kit. (which measures out close to 4.5" of ACTUAL suspension lift height)
My tires rub on the aftermarket control arms at full lock, and it doesnt take much articulation off road to get them rubbing the fender flares.
The tires are 31.6" tall(which is taller than a 31x10.50) and it is 10.7ish inches wide (also bigger than a 31x10.5
A 265/75-16 would be listed as a 32x11 in standard form, a 245/75-15 would be listed as 31x10.50.
You wont fit 265/75-16's on 3" of lift without cutting. Go with 245/75-16's.
If you look at the manufacturers websites and actually go out and MEASURE the ACTUAL height of a 31x10.50 you will find that it is slightly SMALLER than advertised. (i.e. 30.6x10.2) which is almost an inch smaller in diameter than a 265/75-16. There is a big difference between an actual tire diameter of 31" and 32"......espicially at 3" of lift.

I run 245/75R16 on Ford Explorer wheels, no issues with 2" lift (Street driving, not wheeling) The Ford wheels have a little (more?/less?) backspacing than the original jeep wheels, giving more lower control arm clearance - they only just touch if I'm flexed at full lock. I have a set of WJ lower control arms to put on, but don't need them with these wheels. I would think 265's would fit OK with 3" lift (for street use)

Ranger/Expo 16" rims are all 16x7" with 4.5" of backspacing stock jeep rims are 16x7 with 5.5" of backspacing normally. The treadwrights are damn near as tall as my 285/75R16's and will fit similarly height wise. Width wise the 285's had a bit more girth to them. Either way they should look something like that.
For comparo these are the 265/70R17's I am comparing to. measure 32" exactly on all tires. My 285/75R16's measure between 32.5-32.8"

Google search "tire size calculator" and go to the miata.net one.
245/75-16 = 30.5" tall = 31"
265/75-16 = 31.6" tall = 32"
285/75-16 = 32.8" tall = 33"
Get the 245/75's
245/75-16 = 30.5" tall = 31"
265/75-16 = 31.6" tall = 32"
285/75-16 = 32.8" tall = 33"
Get the 245/75's

It depends on your lift too. Some companys over/understate how high their lifts actually lift and with what accessories(bumpers, tire carriers, etc...) which is why i mentioned how high my jeep actually measured with a 3.5" kit.

So, lemme get this straight...
OP wants to know what size tire to run for MINIMAL offroading and MINIMAL to no cutting on 3" of lift.
And your suggestion is to run almost a 33" tire on 3" of lift on stock backspaced wheels? Thanks for all the amazing help your giving!

Jesus dude, some guys have trouble clearing 33's with 5" of lift AND hacking their jeep to ****. Quit filling the thread with ignorant and mis-informative posts.

Accepting the PC is recalibrated accurately, are there any negatives to supplanting the stock 245 tires with 265s on a 2500HD Crewcab Duramax? Would there be any noticable contrast in force and additionally towing capacity? I sometimes tow a 10,000 lb. travel trailer (not fifth wheel). I'm thinking about a Sierra that has a Waldoch change that incorporates chrome haggles 265 tires. Musings?
