The 4wd shift lever is a little different. But I think just swapping levers with a factory xj 231 would work fine

That will depend on the year of the XJ. Not sure of the YJ.

So if i get one from a 95 I should have the same input shaft as mine. My trans is a 95 aw4

That is correct. I think they went back to 23 spline in 91. But you need ot also make sure the speedo drive is the same if you get a newer one. IIRC they went to electronic speedo drive in 96

Ok so picked up a 231 out of a 98 xj! Now since I have a drive shaft for the internal slip style tcase can I still use it on the newer version? I tried and it slips right over the shaft.
