I have a 95 trans and tcase in my 97 xj and my tcase needs to be replaced. I picked up a 231 from a 98 tj with the external slip yoke. What do I need now to make this work. I know ny ds I have now won't so i guess a hack n tap is the way to go. Any opinions.

The first thing you need to know is that the YJ case is clocked differently than the XJ. It will sit higher on the driver side. It would be better if you had an XJ case. If you change the nose of the planetaries you can us it, but you will have to completely disassemble the case to do it.

It can work, but you will have to probably alter your cross member or sheetmetal

Yes the bolt pattern is the same, but the long side of the case will sit higher when bolted up. That is what is called clocking

The clocking IS different. And it WILL hit the floorboard unless you drop the crossmember or modify the floorpan.

I have done this swap before.
