yup, the 3.4 is a pretty decent little engine. i had one in my '94 camaro. it wasn't a speed demon by any means, but it's better than the 2.8. there's a moderate aftermarket support for the 3.4, also. there's a whole forum dedicated to that engine, too. do a search for 60* v6, i don't remember the forum name. you can do a top end swap from any car with the newer 3.4 (grand am and a few other cars) and get close to 190 HP with factory parts.

I think a 3.8L or a 4.3 would be a better option for a swap if you want to stay with the GM engines , an keep it a V6 the 3.8 and 4.3 have more aftermarket support than the 3.4L

Yes, but of all the swaps the 3.4 is easiest. You basically switch blocks and a few other goodies and the rest you use the 2.8 stuff.

Comp Cams used to make a cam kit and roller tip rockers for the 2.8, but you're still stuck with a junk carb and an engine that leaks more oil than what was spilled in the Gulf.

swapping a 3.4 in place of a 2.8 would probably be a weekend job and those engines are dirt cheap, like in the $200-300 range. in fact, if you have a 2.8 it's almost stupid to NOT do the swap it's so easy.
Thank you for all the suggestions for the swap I might just have to look that more

Edelbrock makes a manifold to fit a better 2 bbl Holley Carb and a cam kit for the 2.8. I put one in my 66 M38A1 and its not a speed demon but gets it where it needs to go. Im also on 33s w/4.10 gears in the stock D44 military axles.Originally Posted by Bustedback

I put a 3.4 in my MGB. I used the edelbrock intake with a holly 390 cfm 4bbl carb. The intake is 2 peices, you can get a 2bbl or 4bbl top. It's got about 220hp. If you go 3.8/4.3, you might as well do a v8 swap. You need an iron head 3.4 like the ones found on the 93-95 camaro, the 3400 fwd engine has aluminium heads. Carb is way easier then trying to wire an injected engine.

To each his own. Everyone has positive and negative for everything. Lets keep the suggestions coming. And Yes, a 4.0 or 4.2 will fit in our engine compartment. Its tight, but it fits. I have a 4.9L stroker in my 85.
