30 or 31’s X 10.5. Doing research now on brands. Doing research on Falken Wild Peak AT 3. I was leaning towards Cooper, but too many people are telling me they aren’t good tires.
do you have any suggestions?
I just replaced the four year old Falken Wildpeak A/T3W's (235/75R15) on my XJ. Very good tires except that they took quite a bit of weight to balance them. Only needed balancing once though. Even at 6/32 tread depth there is still plenty of siping left. I rotate tires twice a year (~6000 miles). Could have easily gotten another winter out of them.
I replaced them with General Grabber A/TX's (30X9.50R15). Also have a set of 235's on our '96 Blazer. I had very good luck with the Grabber A/T2's I had on my XJ. Minimal weight for balancing on them all.
Final word is that except for the balancing issue which is no big deal both brands to me perform the same. Falkens have gone up in price so are a bit higher than the Generals. There is a $100 pre paid VISA card offer on them until 10/31. And we did actually get the card last year when we bought our Blazer's tires. https://generaltire.com/tires/light-...uv/grabber-atx
I really realy like these tires.
they are branded by some big names. https://www.ebay.com/itm/4-New-Ameri...-127632-2357-0
both tires pictured were abused one was ripped multiple times on my xj the other drove over a tpost fence by my girlfriend
ive also seen the desert hawks work well in slimy muddy conditions
i no longer by tires from tires local tire stores if i can help. They are over priced and often pushing the sane tires i can find for half price online.
ive also started mounting my own tires and running balance beads.
It would be hard to get a 10.5 tire to seat on a 8" wheel. You still save alot of money even after giving them 120 to mount and balance
You go big with tires and you will soon want to regear. 4.11 gears are about right for a 30 inch tire, 4.56 for a 33 inch tire and so forth. if there is a chnce you may later want to go bigger still, consider the gear change required. if you think eventually you will want 33 tires, do not spend money on 30 inch and gear for 30 inch, else you get to do the regear twice. plan ahead
