I pulled my build sheet up for my XJ. It says that it came with a 124A alternator. I thought it was the smaller model ? I don't plan on having a winch, just a big nice stereo and maybe a couple lights. Also still considering on board air and a ac/dc inverter. Would it be worthwhile to upgrade to the 136A ? Only cost me about $35. I also have the battery cable upgrade from here on the selling forums. I opted to only go with the 4awg wire for ease of routing ?

Because it is cheaper to get a alternator from a pick an pull then to buy a new alternator and most people think bigger size is better . The alternator I see that are 160 amp cost about $150-$200 .

That's the first I've heard of a 124 A. I thought the larger ones that came factory were 119 A.
What units are you referring to? Like the Mean Green?

A winch will probably be one of my last upgrades. Dual batteries does sound like a fun project. I'm assuming that it is the original alternator. That's what the PO said. I'll wait till it goes out and look into a dual battery setup in the meantime.

The other alternator you can use is this one https://www.autozone.com/batteries-s...=&model=&year= but you still need to do all the grinding on the brackets to clear the bigger alternator but at least you will be getting a 160 amp alternator , if you click on vehicle fitment tab you can see what it fits and maybe order it some where else .
