Converting '99XJ Alternator to ZJ V8 Alternator
I've heard this should be pretty strait forward. Has anyone here tried this with either success or failure? I'd be interested in hearing about it

Don't forget to upgrade your wiring to take full advantage of the new alternator (generally speaking - if you're going to uprate your alternator, it's because you're going to use that capacity fairly often. The OEM wiring is designed for "typical service" - seeing 100% output for maybe a 35% duty cycle or so, with typical power use levels being closer to 50-55% of rated. They've sized their wiring accordginly.
(My wiring is sized assuming a 100% duty cycle at 100% output - I actually use 110% of rated, since actual max output can be 95-110% of rated! - and consider the environment underhood.)
