Lots of interesting things here.
I don't have much time, so I'll make this one quick and post more later if I have the chance.
Anyway, a 12 gauge would be useless. Ammo will be easy to find, but its bulky. .22LR would be the best. One shot to the head and that little slug is bouncing around inside, no more zombie. And its just as available as 12 gauge, but you can fit hundreds of thousands of rounds in an XJ.
For all you going North, have fun freezing. I'm going to find an old school prison with stone walls and a court yard. Why? Several reasons.
Remote opening/closing doors. You can't beat that in a zombocalypse. Chances are prisoners aren't loose, so if infected it'll be easy to control/exterminate.
We all know how strong prisons are built. Zombies aren't getting in, at least if you choose the right one.
That court yard will come in super handy when I start my garden to grow food.
Most prisons have medical facilities, huge kitchens, weapon caches, pretty much everything you'd need to survive for the duration of the outbreak.
Not to mention plenty of space to park lots of XJs.....

with my XJ noting its a good Zombie hunter as is. though for the daily a good mid travel kit up front and some nice leafs out back, build a chase rig out of it. dont think zombies can keep up with a hemi running at 70 off road

yeah i think speed is a a good thing to cover for safety too, you wanna be able to get the **** out if the situation gets a little thick haha, also i like the prison idea too, i think that would be a pretty good safe spot, just gotta conserve food, don feed the prisoners i guess lol

Here's the thing with zombies: Assuming that X portion of the population got infected, there will still be Y portion of the population who would be infection free, remain that way and reproduce, all while cutting down the numbers of zombies as time goes on. Eventually the zombies would be wiped out and civilization could be rebuilt.

its funny most of the replies are things we try to do to our rigs anyway for just offroading, all we really are gonna need are some guns, food and ammo.

If I knew zombie apocalypse was coming I would throw a 4 cylinder turbo diesel in the xj, convert to biodiesel and start that weird algae fuel producing pond. That way I have enough fuel to get around. I'd also raid all the local auto parts stores and junkyard and get spares. Load the guns up etc etc...
But if I didn't know the zombiegeddon was smacking down who knows... zombies can't run power plants and refineries and stations so there would be a lot of hurt in those departments...
