srt4's make me laugh. my brother has a 88 Mustang GT 5 speed and outran a pretty built one with nothing but exhaust and a cold air intake.....MAYBE 200hp at the back wheels...
i've yet to come across one in my t-bird, but i did blow the doors off of a cobalt ss...dead stop all the way to top end, he just couldnt hang. and that was when i first got it and it wouldnt rev over 4000 rpm's.
right now it's just got a cold air intake, stock mustang upper intake and stock mustang headers, 19lbs injectors, mustang computer, modded stock exhaust (gutted cats, no mufflers, and dumped in front of axle), Ford Racing b303 cam, 65mm throttle body, and deleted ac/ps/smog.
i'm in the process of porting a set of mustang heads (better heads than it has now) and porting an intake for it, i have an h-pipe i gotta get time to put on, and a set of 3.45 gears.
i may just skip this whole setup i'm planning to swap on, sell the heads and intake, and buy a 5.0 explorer engine from the junkyard, freshen it up, gasket match the intake and heads, and put my b303 cam in it. put that through a 5 speed and 4.10 gears and i should be putting around 300hp to the ground. i have plans of either turbo or supercharging it within the next year. shooting for being the fastest street car in town....

I can if I'm on ice!
I live in Ga. Tires stay rolling normal here. They are 35s though too lol.
I can lock them up. Gotta push the brake pedal through the firewall though.
Haha
I'd buy a car if I wanted a fast vehicle. ..

I can spin the 31's on my XJ fairly easy with an intake and exhaust mods. But no they are definitely not fast.

stroked ford 2.3 boosting about 25psi with all the supporting mods.....
I had a 91 convertible before this one. 2.5l, 23lbs, bigger injectors/3bar map, and STOCK everything else(block, head, internals 136,xxx miles) The chrylser turbo motor was really designed well. I ran that setup for about 6 months w/ detonation and held up just fine until I needed to pass emissions. Fun little ride but next one is getting forged rods/pistons and upgraded intercooler on roughly 25-30psi!Originally Posted by dougy_fresh

I hear ya there, anything not designed for crawling feels like speed demon! My Shadow CSX is equivalent to a SRT4 neon Stage 1 which is really cool considering my CSX is an 87. My car hangs w/ my uncles SRT4 neon until he switches the boost controller to 3(he has stage 2 w/ toys). Then I am H-I-S-T-O-R-Y.Originally Posted by 4-play
Keeping it all in perspective....Jeeps are not fast except for the SRT8...that is quick! My magnum is not the quickest car...but after driving the Jeep for a while and getting in the 4100lb sled with all the comforts and gadgets of a pretty high end car....I can't complain. Comparing a 4 banger turbo to a 2 ton vehicle? Put it up against a SRT4 caliber with a few mods. That would be a good match up, as long as you like torque steer. Personally I like big cars with V8's and rear wheel drive. I need all the room for my kids, dog and hockey bags!

My XJ still pulls pretty hard for a 6 banger, considering that i can literally "swipe" a credit card through the crack in my exhaust manifold!!!

mine is on 33s and I can smoke the tires pretty good, I also can beat my fiance's car (mercury grand marquis with the v8) in a race, I have better flowing exhaust, and a cold air intake. If I stomp on it it rips, then I get in her car and stomp on it to pass someone and it takes forever.. but i am not complaining about her car, we got it from her grandma when she passed away, its a 1997 with only 37xxx
Well.....I should put it in perspective. When I say "fast" I mean compared to other types of vehicles in it's class. I have had a 67 Chevelle for about 23 years and that's fast. I didn't mean to imply I would take it to a drag strip or anything like that.
It just amazes me for what it is. I have a friend that's owned 5 or 6 XJ's and I'm gonna have him drive it this week to see what he thinks. It's hard to explain in writing I guess, I'm thinking the last owner did something else because it seems faster than it should.

My '03 WJ has the high output 4.7 in it... it'll spin all 4 from a stop... and squeak them into 2nd gear... Motor trend tested them 0-60 with a 6.7 second time... that's hauling the mail for a grocery getter.
My '92 5.0 mustang weighs 3000lbs and makes 360hp/380tq and runs 4.10's on 26" tire... it'll obliterate the tires from a roll in 2nd gear, spin them hard going into 3rd, and spin them just enough going into 4th (at over 80mph) to require steering correction.
My '97 XJ runs a stock motor/exhaust ('cept for a flowmaster muffler) with 33's and 4.56's... for what it is it moves out pretty good... it'll chirp the 33's going into 2nd and 3rd when I'm acting a fool... It'll pull 7% grade in 5th on the highway without loosing speed... I would not consider it fast ... but, for an old 4x4 with a straight 6 and a bunch of armor it get's the job done.
Having said that, I have no doubt that a stock XJ auto would kill it in a race.

actually,. you'd be pretty surprised. i've seen somethings that don't seem right to do with an XJ. granted, lifting them for trails, mud, etc. is the main thing people will do with them. there are a few crazies out there that do some odd stuff with them. at the Woodward Dream Cruise thsi past year, there was this guy in the Ferndale area (south end of the show) who had a 1993, lowered, with race slicks, and a stroked 4.0. it was pretty BA. of course everyone was walking by shaking their heads saying "what the hell" and "that's not right at all." i was probably one of 5 people the whole day who stopped and gave the guy two thumbs up, lol.Originally Posted by dans01classic
I dont have enough money to see if mine is fast. Gas is way to expensive! I have had my jeep for about 6 months and I dought once i've put it to the floor once. Besides these are built for climbing and trail riding, not for racing.
my 1995 can hold it's own from time to time. we have a lot of those "merge right" sections after an intersection in my area, and these kids with heavily modded WRX's always try to blow through the light and pass me before the lane merges. i have yet to have one actually beat me. the only two cars that actually got by me were a 1969 Camero and some guy with a Silverado 2500 diesel with dual stacks and a whole bunch of other crazy **** done to his work truck.

Then i'm planning to do some hunting for even faster cars to kill.....
thats because magnums are huge four door wagons, and they were probably stock.Originally Posted by dougy_fresh
hemi magnums arent really even fast, i've put more than a few in my rearview in my thunderbird. it's an 88 5.0 t-bird with a few bolt ons and a cam. soon to have ported heads and intake, 2.5" h-pipe, and lower gears...o and a 5 speed. Then i'm planning to do some hunting for even faster cars to kill.....

i can chirp all 4 on dry pavement when i stomp it down...its rated at about 7.5 sec to 0-60...
now, when the roads are dry but covered in salt, i stomp on that gas and i can spin all 4 all the way thru the intersection with it fish tailing a little bit and when the tires hook, it launches on out
now my 93 XJ with a 2 inch lift, and BFG ATs, and a 5 speed, with limited slip takes off pretty nicely...i never let the tires spin much at all tho bc on dry pavement with the LS and ATs, it axle hops way to much

Well there are oddballs in every production run....some that are pieces of junk and some that are really good. We have a guy in our car club with a stock Hemi and he Dyno's #'s from that stock car that have only been seen from a heavily modded one. Maybe you got lucky and your Jeep was built on a Wednesday!!Originally Posted by mikesplumbing

My tires don't spin much, but it does 0 - 60 in about 100 yards.
