I know what this is
Was stumped for over a year trying to figure out my whistle, when finally thinking I figured it out and pulling off my intake manifold for a gasket swap I found that a big chunk of my intake manifold was cracked off only still held on by the rearmost bolt securing it from falling to the ground. I jb welded the piece back on and the problem was resolved... for now 👍

Additional info
I just want to add to the window controls for passengers and others not working all the time. I own a 2000 XJ sport and I took the master control out of the driving side and checked the soldered connections. After time these tend to crack and loose connection. All I did was drop some new solder on all the pins and good to go. No problem since. Hope this helps!

A common problem too is cracked cylinder heads! I've seen it mostly on 0630 and 0331 castings.
The whole going into the store and coming out and the engine misfiring til it clears is actually a sign of a cracked cylinder head. Mine did it for 2 years til I finally replaced the 0630 cracked head on my '98 xj with a 0331 TUPY from a '03 wj. When the head is cracked they will still run but run over 210 and the electric fan will work itself to death trying to keep the poorly designed 4.0 cooling system cool. When you shut the engine off the coolant temp rises and pressure builds up allowing coolant to seep into the cylinder, causing it the engine to pop and missing and fall on it's face til the cylinder is cleared out.

slip yoke
having read 77olds post regarding the bowling ball effect when moving off and in my case braking..i thought i would have a look at the slip yoke on my 97 XJ,having pulled back the rubber bellows covering the slip yoke i could see at a glance that the yoke was quite dry and no grease was present,so following 77olds guide i got a good amount of grease in and around the yoke and on the splines, zip tied it all back up and went for a ride...sure seems so much better now...and smooth when moving off and when braking.thank you 77olds for that info..

Ok I got one for transmission
When I start the jeep (cold) and reverse it's a "hard shift when I step off the brake and reverse. Then when I get to the first gear it's a hard and slow shift and thuds and then the rest of the shifts are smooths. But why is it hard all of a sudden it was never like that before. I had recently put new fuel injectors and adjusted the kick down cable. Ever since then it's been doing this.

FWIW, that cable is actually called the Throttle Valve cable. It's for more than just down-shifting the transmission when you give it more gas. It actually controls how "late" the transmission will go into the next gear according to how much throttle you give it as well. I don't know all the ins and outs of how it works though, so best to transfer your question over to the other thread.

I'm not completely sure... sounds like you may not have adjusted the TV cable (kickdown cable) correctly. Try asking here:
