mine has almost 190k on the clock and being over 20 years old it's pretty quiet I think the accessorys on the drive belt make the most noise.

Yes, mine makes noise, it's an engine and they tend to make noise when they're running.

Yes, it makes quite a bit of noise. It's got 130k miles. I hate quiet cars! Too hard to tell if they're actually started or not.

Dont worry too much, it actually makes the XJ safer.

Traffic, in the absence of engine noise, is a potentially frightening, even dangerous proposition.

When you cross the street, your first impulse would be to look left, right, and then left (depending on whether vehicles pass the right or left side of the street). Noise from oncoming cars will alert you that you shouldn’t cross yet. What if the oncoming car isn’t making any noise at all?

Just like the Harley guy saying loud pipes save lives. Loud 4.0 engines save lives.

Yeah 118K here and there is a slight lifter noise. Was worried for a while but every 4.0 I have heard has the sound to some degree. My buddies 4.0 GC makes mine sound like a Prius. . .lol

Every 4.0 is noisy and almost everyone has a cracked manifold, making it even louder.

My tension pulley bearing is out, making this high-pitched grating sound.
I hate it because I cant hear the motor over it......getting a new one today.

Man, my pipes, or lack thereof, don't help squat. Most people still miss me, and its ridiculous. I've learned that no matter what, its better to assume the person doesn't see you.

And I live in the Harley Davidson capitol of the world.
