Doing some XJ shopping anything to look for or avoid. I know about the good transfer case. And the head problem with the newer ones. But anything else to look for. First one I'm going to look at is a 87 auto with 214,000 miles. Anything wrong with those years? Any info would be great. Thanks

 

I'd be wary of the tranny being automatic if you know the person or the kind of driving they did it would ease my mind.

 

87 = renix era. Renixs have their quirks. Electrical can be a pain but there is no OBD system. So no check engine light or any maintenance lights. It should have a closed cooling system so no radiator cap. Obviously rust can be an issue, depending on location, especially with over 25 years of use.

 

Crawl under it look everywhere for rust.How much they want for it tho?

 

Pull back the carpet and look for rust, if its rust demand a lower price

 

lol wish i woulda done that i peeled up the mat in the back of the cargo area and noticed they used 4 old old license plates to weld over holes lol... and someone cut out a hole under the driver seat and put a mason jar in the secret spot lol

 

Is the closed cooling a good thing? I will look for rust. They are asking $1900.00 but I know I can get it cheaper. It's all stock and original nothing had been rebuilt.

 

I had my radiator crack in mine but it was probably original. I hear that converting to opening cooling system is better. Also what trim is it? Pioneer, Laredo, Limited, etc...

 

Not sure on the trim. It's got red interior with like a white plad seats if that helps.

Unless its mint I wouldnt pay over 1200 for one that old with that many miles.

 

$1900.00 but very motivated to sell.

 

Check it out, drive it, if it checks out toss down 1200 and tell him to pony up or your leaving.
