My uncle has an '86 2 door 5 speed that he did the same thing to in the mid '90's. He uses it as his "firewood truck" on his property.

It still runs like a champ, but has taken a beating over the years. He made a homemade tailgate so **** won't slide out, and runs stock tires with tire chains 365 days a year. Floor pans are gone, but there's enough smashed beer cans on the floorboards that you can't really tell, and it gives the illusion that they're still intact.

It's also got a soon-to-be-patented shifter assist device (bungee cord hooked to the dash cause it slips out of gear all of the time), and in many ways is a marvel of redneck engineering.

Would be cheaper to buy a full size pickup.

Easier to have 1 ton axles and easier to have a big block or diesel.
