cutting exhaust tip
I was reading 01limitedxj's BB install and noticed he cut the tip of his exhaust for clearance. This brings the end of the exhaust BEFORE the shackle instead of under the bumper. Would this cause any harm to an aftermarket shackle, like teraflex or RC? I have RC's shackles and OME leaf springs. Both use poly bushings and i'm afraid that cutting the exhaust back will have the exhaust blowing on the shackle and melt the bushings? Probably not but wanna check before doing it cuz my exhaust keeps hitting the shackles.

I just read the same post, 5" maybe a bit extreme. I would install the shackle and seee how much needs to be trimmed. You could always have an exhaust shop make a new tailpipe with a slightly different bend.

Shackle is already installed. The exhaust hits on the lower shackle bolt head. I had the exhaust shop heat and bend it last month but somehow it bent itself back right on the shackle.

Put a cheapie exhaust tip on it for now and have the muffler shop form you a new tailpipe when you can afford the time and money.

i melted a bushing that way.
right now im just running a turndown right before the rear axle. if i run it out back past the shackle it always gets wrapped around my axle sooner or later

If it was me I would reverse the bolt that holds the shackle so that the long part faces out and not in..should give you more clearance..If not modify the exhaust to drop just after or before the axles..

I had the same problem. I cut the exhaust back and got a peice of pipe from the auto parts store with a 90* angle and a tip. I brought it out behind the tire. I need to change the nut on the shackle cuz it melted the nylon out of it.

what does this do with exhaust gasses? do they get in the cab or still go out back? I mangled my exhaust on my TJ before and cut it right after the rear axle and could smell exhaust gasses in the cab till i got it fixed.

Doesn't this interfere with the leaf springs?

Got a pix of your duals? You can see if they will come in contact. Just measure a couple inches down from your stock shackles and see if they are going to come in contact with the pipes. If they do hit, it's probably just gonna tap on it, nothing major.
