Default 2" lift with 30" tires = cheep and will work!

Lippincott Mine road: All the tire and clearance I needed! However, a rear locker was ordered after this trip.

Here’s where I ended up as a follow up on my post above. went with the BFG KO2 30s, Baja extreme 2s, on the OME 2.5 ~ 3 inch lift. They stuff real nice even with the sway bar disconnected. Happy with the outcome!

A picture like that on a 2" lift similar to mine.... that's why I'm considering just going with 30s. I want to be able to do at least this much articulation without rubbing, trimming, etc. and still not have it look like I'm rolling around on donut tires. LOL

Yes, a 2- or 3-inch lift is all that's needed for most 4x4 trails and Overland treks! When I did this trail BFG didn't make 30" tires for my 16" wheels - but they do now and OME is a great lift!

Now I see why you wanted to keep those stock wheels - it's unusual to see them in good shape - BTW, my 2" lift netted 2-1/4"

I just switched from 245/75/16s to 31"x10.5"x15s on my 89 XJ with a 2" lift so I thought I'd show both. They're basically the same. Between these shots I installed load leveler shocks in the rear to assist with trailering. It resulted in a small amount of additional lift.

Thanks.... like your rig too.

I know it's preference....but to me the stock steelies just kinda add a touch to the basic no frills, militaristic brick styling of our old XJ's.... so that's why I keep them on

Thanks, Indeed, 7" wide steel rims hold our 225-245 tires better and steel bends rather than brakes on the trail - I learned this the hard way when I destroyed both a tire and an 8" wide Chinese made aluminum wheel (installed by my Jeep's previous owner) in Death Vally. I now run these Black Rock dimpled 7x16's - though not XJ retro like yours, they are Jeep Retro and I haven't had a flat since switching to them :

Do you have any clearance issues running 31s on stock? thinking of doing the same.
