Yeah. You always need some form of evidence to preserve the record for court. Photos, police report, witness, anything. I always keep a digital camera in my car for filming purposes. It's been handy a few times. Calling 911 is almost always mandatory to initiate a claim.

A guy I work with saw it too. I think it will buff out but not sure so it's not a HUGE deal. Just would rather not have them down the side of my truck.

First of all, not my jeep, my truck. Second, if I hadn't gotten her license plate, I'd be screwed. And third, pretty sure this has nothing to do with maturity.

Not in MN, here if you call the cops and there is less than $2000 worth of damage they don't write and accident report. All they will do is check each persons proof of insurance and give you copies or the others documents.

You can still take it to court if the damage is or exceeds $20. It's a constitutional right.

Oh definitely, and you can still go after the other parties insurance. Just saying in MN it does not have to be on a police report. Sure would make it easier in a case like this though.

That's why you always need a voice recorder or video camera or something to preserve the record yourself if the police won't do it for you. What's important is getting the report on the police registry for when you take it to court for examination. That's all that really matters. Preservation of the record is really up to you. Cops are nothing more than employees of a corporation following policy. They act on statute law (commercial) and know little of common law. It's ultimately sad but true. Almost everyone has forgotten what common law is and that it's still in effect.
