WK vs XJ
having no experience with jeeps of any kind, I have a question. I like the looks of a lifted XJ but there is something to be said for a lifted WJ to. In the opinion of the forum, what are the advantages of each, what year of each is best to lift? I know the XJ has leaf springs in the rear and the WJ has coils, which is better?
I want on or the other, and it will see off road use, but about 70% of the time it will be on road or winter driving. I like the 6" lift with the 33" tires, so I will go with that on both whatever "J"s
Comments welcome from all as I said, I've never owned a Jeep of any kind. Thanks, David

Your title and question don't match.
WK= 2005-2010 Grand Cherokee
WJ= 1999-2004 Grand Cherokee
Either way I'm an XJ person.

Wj's can be awesome offroad. Just costs a little more than the xj usually. The ride comfort is better than the xj. If you're not going hardcore, go with a wj.

WJ vs XJ
Thanks to all for posting and to the few commodians for their comments too. I figured I'd go with the XJ, I like the squared off look without so much plastic. Only reason I asked was the coils on the WJ. And in the year 199, it would have been a Cherokee wagon with 8 hoof power and not much of a suspension. Away, thanks for the help.

WJ > XJ all day everyday. I say it all the time. Everything the XJ has, plus more, better suspension, still get yout 4.0, and leather.
WK - Meh.

The problem with the ZJ/WJ Grands is reliability! The trannys and rear axles are junk, the rest of those Jeeps are okay with the exception of some electrical/HVAC issues.
I love the XJ for the 4.0/AW4 combo and the simplicity of the rest of the Jeep. If you happen to have a XJ with the D-Turdyfive rear axle then that is a problem that is easily fixed with a Ford 8.8, Dana 44 or a 29 spline 8.25 depending on your budget.
A plus side for the ZJ/WJ is that Jeep kept the solid front axle in them.
I ventured out of my comfort zone of the XJ two years ago and bought a brand new 09 HEMI Commander (XK). I love it! Its been rock solid dependable. I WISH it had a solid front axle but that is the only thing I would change.
