I don't know about this but I read somewhere that the wing windows out of a '97 will fit. I had a '92 that didn't have the ones that open and I think I read it somewhere on here about the swap.

Ok.... lets do this. I'm going to answer all wing window questions.

Lets start with this.
97-01 they got rid of them. They have full windows.

84-96 either had wing windows or solid glass. Either are interchangeable. But there is a main reason for solid glass.
There was a recall on wing windows and the fix was replacing the opening window with a fixed piece.

I would rather have fixed in mine. Wing windows leak, and give a car thief an easy entry into your jeep. I swapped out mine.

But to each thier own. To swap em you need to pull the main glass out, remove the one bolt in the lower door and 2 phillip screws on the outer frame. Wiggle it and bam. Its out. Try it at the junk yard to make sure you don't **** it up.

Yes, it is; and yes, it is.

I've done this several times myself, and have posted a fairly detailed writeup (including potential pitfalls - even simple jobs have potential pitfalls.)

Probably take you an hour to do both, donors 1984-1996, door count irrelevant.

I see, it has wing windows they just don't vent. Is this fairly common? I've had six Cherokees and know of plenty of others but have never seen fix wings.

I've had five RENIX XJs - three with functional smoker windows, two without.

A quick trip to the breaker's and an hour or so in the driveway sorted that - I prefer having functional smoker windows (even though I don't smoke anymore.)

Fixed window was standard. Opening windows was optional.

The factory fix for noisy opening wings: Remove thm and install fixed ones.

I shoulda saved all those opening windows we took out at the dealership!!!

No kidding! I had the first year Pioneer it had vents and I have an 88 now with vents and 4 from the 90s all vented. That's amazing, I've been driving them for 20 years and have never seen one with fixed wing windows. I've lived in the west all this time might it be a more regional thing? Leaky windows where it rains more is a bigger issue.
