My current winch has a Synthetic rope, but once it starts to wear I will be replacing it with one from winchline.com . I've seen a cable snap it is not pretty the hook went threw a jeeps hood that was folded up against the windshield. after seeing that I replaced the cable on my M8000

Freegdr, I don't know if you would like using the synthetic winch rope. If I'm not mistaken don't you mostly do mud? The synthetic line doesn't like mud very much, but if you do get the synthetic line just make sure you unroll it and clean it thoroughly after use.
The ebay line sounds like it should work just fine.

synth. rope is more prone to wear in in the mud. but also is less violent when/if it snaps from m experiences. but either way proper winching techniques like using a blanket or something to stop recoil can stop the tow hook from going through someone's windshield which I have seen before as well.

edit: and I'm with green^^^ I like steel cable better personally. If you do it right and are safe, you really can't go wrong with cable

Stronger and lighter, the two key elements of Synthetic Rope that make it the choice of competition off road vehicles everywhere. Rugged Ridge high strength Synthetic Winch Rope is constructed from genuine Dyneema SK-75 fiber imported from the Netherlands. This revolutionary fiber is the choice of off-road enthusiast worldwide. It is stronger and lighter than wire rope and never kinks or splinters! Our synthetic line is woven from twelve UV-treated strands, resulting in increased strength, and a power to weight ratio unmatched by wire rope. Each synthetic rope comes with a protective sleeve that prevents it from over heating on the winch drum, black powder coated latched hook, stainless steel thimble, and is pre-terminated end for ease of installation. Synthetic rope does not store energy like steel cables, and in the event of a failure it is much less likely to result in severe injuries caused by the whiplash of broken wire rope.
