exactly to each his own. I used to think wranglers were sweet until i realized what would be practical! something that can tow a heavy load. something with more room for storing stuff, something that can fit a family in.

Something that doesnt look like barbie drives every day!

i dont hate wranglers i still think they are cool the classic wrangler look, but i just dont like the look of the new 4dr wranglers.

Me neither. They look like a bad stretch limo version of a Jeep or something.

I just discovered something. Wranglers are available with an automatic trans! That explains a lot! DOH!! I'm still glad I bought my ZJ. That 4.0L AMC inline 6 is/was the most reliable engine jeep ever used. Long stroke = lots of torque.

Did you know Pres. Eisenhower started building the Interstate road system because He was impressed how quickly the ***** could move military equiptment on the Autobahn? Imagine that! Something else with a German origin! If I remember correctly Mercedes built a combat car with tracks!

i have to agree. each to his own. Only thing that bugs me about them is having brand new wranglers and unlimiteds and keeping them stock.....they look like complete trash...now when they have a decent lift with good tires...now they look sexy. If i ever got one i'd have to do the hemi swap. and it'd be unbeatable!!!

yeah, i keep mulling it over. my wife wants to trade my dakota for a 4-door wrangler, and I really like the way they look. but, a 25 grand rig, plus another 6-7 to do a hemi swap, is it worth it? i don't see how it could be justified. because, by the time that you do all of that you'll need better axles, better tranny, better TC..............

Hemi swap? Thats about as useless as a $24 supercharger.

I'm not a huge Wrangler fan, but I don't hate them. If I were to ever get one though, it'd be a TJ with the 4.0. The JK's are nice and all, whether it be 2 or 4 door, but I'm not a fan of the V-6.

That why we wait about 10 years so theyre only a couple grand. and parts are super cheap

diesel. why is the hemi swap a waste of time? their little minivan engine is like the 2.7 v-6 that cherokees had (or whatever it is). swap that 2.7 into your jeep and then report back how you like it

The type of wrangler owner you describe is a typical person joining in on a fad, but not all. My friend who got me into this whole jeep thing, is a wrangler owner, however it is almost a pure trail rig only. He really can't do anything else with it, other than it makes a great log skidder, lol, and does well hauling firewood from the woods to home (offroad trailer). Once you really look into it, you see many more wranglers up for sale too, people realize they are not the cozy daily driver they had bargained for, but yet people still want a premium for them. I chose the cherokee for its usefullness. It's a decent daily, excellent for trips (there's room for luggage, can haul a trailer without white knuckle driving, and with a few mods is a more than capable off road. JMO of course, and if I were in search of an offroad only toy, a cj or a wrangler would be on my list of possibilities.

The hemi swap makes more power than most jk's will ever need.

And as for the new jk's they are hands down the most capable production jeeps built. They offer far more interior space than previous wranglers, along with a much smoother and stable ride. Not to mention the comfort level is high for jeep.

Yes the jeep feels underpowered, but that is not the fault of the v6. It is because of frame weight, along with all the crash safety enforcements the jk has. The 4.0 would have not made a difference in this jeep. As long as you keep the gearing correct, then its really not that bad with bigger tires and lift. Besides, if you really need more power there's always a supercharger or a hemi swap

And, yes a lot of jk owners are first time jeep owners. And that's a good thing. Many are donating to charities like the blue ribbon coalition and that helps keep trails open and this hobby alive. And its people like that who help dismiss the stereotype that offroaders are just a bunch of careless rednecks

This is why I like them (even though an XJ can do the same):
