Why even ask my opinion????!?!??!?!
This might be a long story since I am venting on a cherokee related subject.
ANyways, "mother in laws" XJ has a tree(more like large branch) fall on it, insurance totals it, gives he somewhere in the $5k area, then I buy it back for $650. Cool I have an XJ, learned a good amount about em so for. Well she decides she wants to buy another jeep with her insurance money. We shop around, she finds an 2000 xj with 124k for $5900. I find a 99 xj with 77k ORIGINAL for $5300. She checks out the 2000 and asks me what I think. I say I personnally wouldnt buy a 2000 since it is prone to cracking the head gasket. I tell her to check out the 99. Next day she tells me she is meeting the guy again and is going to buy the 2000, Im like why the 99 is cheaper and has way less miles. She says she really liked to 2000(ok whatever) and she called the local shop and they said they never heard of the 2000 having cracked head problems!!! Really lady, some random f****** shop tells you that it doesnt have problems(Shops prolly thinking Sweet we get to rake in the cash soon fixing a cracked head ) so she meets the guy and buys the 2000 XJ. Oh and she said she asked the seller(small time car Dealer) if he knew anything about the cracked heads, and he said he really only knows about sports cars. So Im like why the heck didnt you buy the 99???!?!? Then my girl gets mad at me and is saying its not my money I shouldnt worry about it, you know what whatever, when the head cracks dont come crying to me!!! Have fun getting butt raped when you get it fixed!
I need a beer
Oh here is the Jeep I told her to buy, and I emailed the guy it is 77k on the whole jeep not just engine(ad was made it sound like 77k on engine only)

Like the Beatles said..."let it be". If she doesnt wheel it, or abuse it it'll probably be fine. She was probably interested in options, not the head...it's just the way the woman are...drink a beer for me too while you're at it!

Yea thats true bout the late 99s, they started the new heads in Oct 99 IIRC. I would have stayed away from the 2000 for sure! But who knows, she may get lucky and never have head problems..

Didnt know the 99s had that problem too. But still I wouldnt of bought the 2000 either.
Also I thought it was a decent enough price for the 99 considering the mileage, especially if it doesnt have the 0331 cast head.

I'd be willing to bet that if you told her something much less technical, something like "I think it's not the right color for you", then it would've swayed her opinion.
