We have one a year in Central MO. and I used to go every year just to fire a .50 cal that one fellow owned but you could go through a $1k worth of ammo so quickly on a car target that I final stopped but that was a lot of fun. One of the most fun things to shoot were the Ruger 10-22's full auto with drum clips cheap ammo. Only bad thing on the ones they had for rent was the bores were shot out from mostly the heat I would guess, lucky to get 36" groups in small bursts lol.

I was on the Sheriff's Dept. for several yrs. in the late 80-mid 90's down here. The rifle that was issued was a Ruger .556 I liked it better than the old M-16's they retired main reason was selective fire single, 3 shot burst, full auto. The 3 shot burst is more useful than full auto in most every condition in that usage if needed, which I never did.
Several on the dept. had problems qualifying with them at the range even with a 3 shot burst much less full auto, a few never did and were not issued them.

No AK, but all my long rifles and shotguns sit wedged inbetween the passenger seat and center console, or laying across the backseat. Wyoming is a constitutional carry "open carry" state. So if someone sees a gun in your backseat, it usually strikes up a conversation like "my grandad used to have an old model 12 like that." or "hows the hunting this morning?"

Loved Yellowstone, I might have to move out that way.
