Do they really make any difference as far driving in snow? I have the BFG KM2's and they grip to nothing in the snow ans ice, and figured it would be cheaper to buy chains then tires....

Any experiences here?

I've used chains on a variety of vehicles and there's simply no comparison.

Chains win each and every time.....as long as they are properly installed and well maintained.

Standard oval links.

Easy installation is a relative term. If it's -10 with a 60 MPH wind...then not so much.

If you get chains get the ones with cams, makes tightening the chains much easier.

Cams take up most of the slack in the chains and allow you to really tighten them down. They aren't necessary but they are a nice feature. The biggest problem with cams is it is common for one of the links that connects to the cam to turn sideways during storage, making it impossible to tighten it, nothing a little pretrip inspection and a hammer can't fix.

Make sure you have some gloves with the rubberized grips, makes putting them on and adjusting them much less miserable because your hands stay dry.
