I have a 2000 Sport and the transmission (aw4) is still running strong. Just a clunk whenever I shift into drive or park. Like a clunk enough to move the Jeep...any theories?

I just hit the 108k mark and want to do a Trans Flush tomorrow too.
(Routine maintenance at 100k if im not mistaken)...
How much fluid and what type is the best for me? 2000XJ AW4

Just curious cause I have heard of the Dex/Mer vs ATF4 debate

Dealership uses ATF4 so that's what I used. I've got a similar clunk sound but only when its in reverse and I let go of the brake. Check your trans mount.

for me it was worth 150 to have them do it...especially after he gave me the cooler for free

I will spend a little more at a great shop and get it done right than go the cheap way out and half a$$ it
It's kinda like the "free" wireless phone with the $1000 per month / 7 year contract / $3000 termination fee.

You guys are rough.
Shop hours are $100/hr typically.
It's not unreasonable to say it takes 1 hour.
Jack up the car, install the cooler, top off fluid, etc

Agreed....Shop hours cover overhead, payroll, taxes...etc.etc. Nothing sets my mood faster than someone saying "wow, you got ripped off" "stealership" "that's way to much to do the 15 minute job" etc, etc, etc.

Labor prices are set by a few factors......where you live, time of year, level of shop experience needed, specialty shops and dealerships.

My Jeep shifts rough from reverse to drive. I just replaced the filter and transmission fluid, but it still does it. I'm not sure why...

As everyone else is saying tranny cooler is your best bet. I got my tranny for 250 bucks with 91k miles on it. Removed the old one and installed the new one in less than four hours.
