Default what's wrong

Hey everyone. So I'm thinking of buying a 98 cherokee xj. Lifted with 35s & some other mods. Person who is selling it says that it stalls every now & then. States that he changed the throttle position & intake air temperature but still hasn't fixed it. It's a good buy at 2700 but I want to know if it's gonna cost a lot to fix it because I don't want to dump a bunch of money into it. Thanks in advance

Could just need a tune-up and the throttle body cleaned.

Tell him you want it but only have $2k to spend you can come up a little if you have to after a few days. You can tell him you borrowed another $2-300 and see if that happens then but wait a few days before that offer. I gave $1800 4 yrs ago for my 99 with a POS 3" lift.

I'll bet the thing is fine! A stalling issue is so minimal. Worst case scenario would be the fuel pump cause they're more expensive than anything else you'd need to replace. Air, fuel and spark are whats required. The usual check list for me is:

-plugs/wires
-cap/rotor
-clean TB
-clean/replace IAC
-clean/replace TPS
-check ignition coil
-clean all grounds/leads and dielectric grease
-check/clean injectors
-some sea foam thru the brake booster hose into manifold. HOWEVER, recent information concludes this isn't as effective as claimed. Imagine that.. BG44k has the best reputation for a fuel system cleaner. Never used it myself.
Sans the BG44k your in it for under 100 bucks. Not a bad deal for a full ignition tune. Add the fluid changes and your still under 200 for it all.

Fan 18 one hundred dollar bills out in front of him. See if he wants that or to keep the old jeep. Money talks. Also persuasive communication is key- "I'll give you X amount for your jeep" vs "give me your jeep for X amount." Good luck!

Very important for the size of lift and tires.

35s on stock gears its a dog has no power and could kill the trans over time if left like that. The lift short arm is the cheapest lift but that high it really needs a long arm kit.And that size lift needs a sye or t case drop. The reason i bring this up is some do the cheapest option only and it will cause a lot of problems later on.

I'm asking questions as we speak. I know the ad says small lift & it sits on 35s.

Stalling issue could also be the crank position sensor. In fact, the only time my XJ has ever stalled... it was the CPS.

The gears would be the big thing since the cost,Going from short arm to long arm isn't bad to do or really high priced.
