What's it worth?
I've got a line on a 2001 Cherokee Sport that I've personally inspected and it appears to be as mint as they come. It's 100% original (except maybe the wheels/tires - 245/75/r16). 4 door, 4.0 auto 4x4 with power everything and all the little bells and whistles work. Nicely tinted windows all around, no rust, no dents and clean carfax. It's the yellow one, which is the only one I've ever seen in person. It has 123k original miles on the odo.
1) What do you honestly think its worth &
2) What would you honestly be willing to pay for it?
I'll disclose what's being asked for it after a few good responses.
Thanx!

If it's in as good condition as you say then typically $5-6000. He could probably get more considering the color is so rare.
I have very little interest in 97+ XJs so I wouldn't pay anywhere near that, but that's pretty irrelevant. He could walk into a reputable dealer around here and get $5k trade in on it and they'd stick it on the lot for $7k and it wouldn't sit there long.

A 2001? Haha.. 0331 head kinda kills it for me. Like stated, low of 5k, high of 7k. What I'd pay for it is irrelevant. If you got a "great" deal on it, the heads already cracked...
The 0331 isn't made of glass like people make it out to be and not all of them are faulty. Either way, big deal, replace it. You can get recast heads for under $400 and they only take a couple hours to swap out and only require basic hand tools other than a torque wrench.
@VTJeep...please provide further detail on this issue. I am a Jeep newb and not familiar with this problem. I fully inspected the engine and found no leaks and it ran strong and smooth.
One more hint to all...its already on a dealer lot. I'm looking at this because it's the newest I could find, stupid low miles, worth actually putting $$ into and I absolutely love the yellow.

Talk to the sales manager, not a sales person. They just want to make more than they paid for it and aren't going to be worried about commission so you can generally get a better price. Even as someone who works at a dealership (Nissan/Subaru/Kia) I won't deal with anyone but the sales managers when buying.
As for the 0331 head he's talking about, the casting on the cylinder heads was faulty in 00-01 causing a lot of them to crack if they're overheated. You'll see the 0331 casting number stamped between the 3rd and 4th cylinders. It's definitely an issue to be aware of but it's not as big a deal as people make it out to be. Hell, my current XJ is a 92 and the head cracked. Cost me less than $300 for a new one and it took me about 8 hours to replace (working steady, but not rushing) having never done one before. Nothing hard about it, just time consuming but I've done a couple since for friends and can do one in about 3 hours now. It's very straightforward since the motors a straight 6 configuration and everythings so open. You can actually pull the head and manifolds as one piece if you've got someone to help you pull it off. Even on mine I only had to look at the factory manual a couple times for torque specs, other than that it was all straightforward.

Thanx for the info motorcharge, greatly appreciated. Not sure there is a "Sales Manager" as it is a pop & son lot, but they usually seem more willing to deal anyways. I can also always play my "active veteran in need" card which seems to work well with the smaller lots.
