So far as I can tell age. My 90' XJ has working ones, my 95 does not. Their senseless, because if they ever break, it's the single-most hardest piece of glass to find.

Its an opition, or at least what I can tell from the all the different xjs I see at the junkyards and my buddies, my 90 has the fixed window while my buddies 92 has the vent window. I kind of wish mine opened but then again at least I don't have leaks and they are an easy way to get your rig broken into.

My '91 has working ones. And I love them, But then I also grew up when all cars had them. If you want ventilation, flip them around back wards. It's like a wind tunnel. And extremely handy if you smoke!

My 93, 89 & 88 has them.... I didn't even know they had them non-functioning. I just assumed all older body styled XJ's had them.... hmmmm learn something new everyday.

Its a year & a trim package thing. Vent windows are awesome! I wouldn't worry bout someone breaking in your wing windows when a thief can have your back glass out of your hatch in less than 2minutes, simply by pulling your lacing & lifting it out. 2minutes tops!
