I have the black jeep survival knife wedged between the seats. Its sharp, has three different cutting edges, and the handle is hallow to hold small sruff like matches and fishing string. Its my favorite straight blade

If your looking for a style of knife (since you make knives). I would think a full tang knife with a tanto type tip on it. A wood or rubber grip and the butt of the knife should have a "tip" of some kind in order to break glass (just in case). Also I would think 6in overall would suit.

Spyderco has a few knives made with a steel they call H1.
Not a carbon steel, so it'll never ever rust. Period.
Easy to sharpen, yet still holds an edge for a good while.

I can vouch for Spyderco and the H1 steel, i love the Spyders. I keep a Spyderco Native CPM-S30V and a simple military issue Kabar (dont remember the steel) both work great everywhere
