Hey everyone, ya boy Jethro here. Just had a few questions and wanted some opinions. My muffler on my 00 xj is all rotted and won't pass inspection. So it's time to replace it. That's where you guys come in. What are your guy's opinions on after markets exhausts? I've been contemplating the Flowmaster 10 series but am unsure if it will become an annoyance seeing how loud it is. Do any of you have a series 10? If so is it crazy loud at highway speeds? (65-70)
Thanks for reading boys. Any advice is much appreciated.

I prefer MagnaFlow for the build quality(stainless steel) and price. Not a bad sound either. check out YouTube for some sound clips to get an idea.

  • Magnaflow is popular, but I think it sounds too "buzzy." Maybe you'd like it, though.
  • Flowmaster 40 and 44 are popular, but I think they sound...crappy and a little tasteless.
  • I have a Flowmaster 50 Delta Flow that I'm quite fond of. The 60 also sounds great. The 70 is a hair more "Flowmastery" than stock which, given the Dynomax option below, is a waste of money in my opinion. A Flowmaster 10 is an insane idea that will sound terrible and probably **** off neighbors and cops.
  • Dynomax has a cat-back that has spectacular bang-for-buck. It performs well, is just a hair louder than stock once broken in, and costs $150--and there is a $50 rebate on it until the end of June. $100 for tasteful sound and good performance should not be passed-up lightly.

I think the Dynomax cat back has a good sound. Thats what I went with, no drone, good flow. Here is what mine sounds like..

I have a flowmaster super 44 on mine. People have told me it sounded "good". I wouldn't know because I'm deaf. But it's getting to be an annoyance because people ll know when I'm approaching them. I decided that my next exhaust system will be most quiet I can find. That way I can sneak in some secret wheeling spots without alerting anybody.

I have a Gibson cat-back, and I love it. It's not ridiculously loud, but it has a deep tone that lets you know I'm not running stock. On the highway it settles into a nice, quiet rumble with no drone whatsoever. It gets more aggressive at WOT. The only real drawback is that the muffler itself is rather large.

Among the others I listened to, the Banks exhaust was closest in sound to the Gibson. I had settled on Banks until I heard the Gibson and immediately changed my mind.

I absolutely hate the sound of Flowmasters. They make the 4.0L sound like a giant unmuffled lawnmower. BRRRRRrrrrrrRRRRRRRrrrrrrRRRRRRRrrrrrrrRRRR!

I second the walker, bought mine for 60 bucks on a coupon at Advance, added a tailpipe and I'm good. Slightly louder than stock but not noisy at all. The other stuff the guys have mentioned are all good brands, you just have to decide what sound you want.
