What to look for???
Don't know if this is the right spot to post this. You can see what I wrote in my new member intro too... But I'm looking at 1992 jeep cherokee with 192000 miles. What should I look for when purchasing this vehicle?

Automatic? Take it out for a drive and make sure it shifts smoothly.
Northern car? Check under the flares, look around everywhere for rust.
Look for oil leaks, exhaust leaks, manifold leaks, make sure all electrical items work. Make sure AC works. Make sure that after 15 minutes of driving that the thermometer points at about 210 degrees. Make sure it stays at 210 30 minutes later. If it goes over, check the cooling system. Make sure it idles nicely.

Thank you.. It is a 4x4 and it is automatic..I know it needs some basic tune up such a plugs and wires and a valve cover gasket replaced... It's from around the Great Lakes. There is rust under the body. The tires alone are worth about 600 bucks. Some nice 31"s. the tires are too big for the fenders tho. Under the good seems pretty dirty...

If you're going to make it a wheeling Jeep, verify that it has a Chrysler 8.25 rear axle. If it has the Dana 35, you might not want it.

if the rear diff cover has a rubber plug instead of a screw in then its more than likely a 8.25 and it is stock

I would say most of the doors pre 97 would fit your Jeep. In fact, they might all fit. But with the slight body style change after 97, I would stick with pre-97.

Thank you guys! I really want this jeep and I feel attached to it lol. Also would you be concerned with 1st gear being a lot louder then the rest. It doesn't slip or slam
