Did you beef up the stearing components to run those over size tires? If not your safety is compromised and by your views you should remove those tires immediately.

 

Oversized tires with the correct lug pattern is safer than ones on the incorrect lug pattern. And yes, you can upgrade steering components to handle the larger tires. I didn't understand that question. Do they not sell upgraded steering components on every 4 wheel drive website? Rough County, 4wd.com, RE, ect.....

Point being, you could have oversized tires, go straight down the road with no problems. You could go along the same road with tires on the wrong studs and the things fly off and kill someone. So are far as "missing out on something", tell that to the persons family that got hurt or worse when your tire flies off and hits them. Think about that.

Oh. Another vehicle to add to the list is Nissan Maximas. I know for SURE, 2010's have 5x114.3. They can come with some pretty sick oem rims. I think they're 18's though.

It's to center the wheel onto the lug nuts. The holes for the lug nuts are over sized to allow for a little slop in the fitment and the conical portion of the nut centers the wheel onto the studs.

Do you realize just how small .7mm is? Next time you have a mechanical pencil the lead is either .5mm or .7mm

Your not going to over stress any lugs.

Once again a test fit is required. Heck the hub section maynot be compatable back spacing may not be compatable etc etc.

 

You DO realize that an "over size" tire for an XJ can be anything from a 235x70 or bigger? 235's aren't going to stress your steering components. 30's aren't going to stress your steering components. 31's MIGHT start stressing them, if they're 10.5" wide. Make sure you know what you're talking about before you start "shooting" as well. And you're right, .7mm doesn't seem like much, but the force pushing against the studs while the wheel is rotating can allow for the studs to shear much more easily than if you were using the properly spaced stud pattern. WILL they work? Yes. But just because something works doesn't mean you should use it.

Since we are talking center to center divide that .7 in half and you get .35. That's how far off center the lug would be in the hole. Can you even measure that without a micro-meter? No I bet not.

 

Obviously the back spacing will be different and the hub bore may be different.. but you get an idea.

Im glad we have other wheel options out there. Thanks for clarifying the 5x4.5 and 5x114.3mm patterns. What it comes down to is with all those options and the relatively low cost of quality wheels, there isnt a need to use 5x115mm. Except when the Zombies come.

Yes, you are absolutely correct. Anything can happen to any vehicle and cause an acccident. The difference is having it be an accident or having it intentionally when you decide to put the wrong wheels on.

Once again, you are right. The part you are wrong about is once again putting them on the wrong lug patterned vehicle.

So, this will not work well. Since the lug pattern isn't correct, it's a good bet that the hub size of the new wheels won't be the same, so the wheels will be installed off center on the car, and will hop down the road, damaging the car and the tires. If the hub size is correct, you will have a much better chance at getting the wheels centered, but the lug nuts will 'walk' off the lugs during driving, from not being seated correctly.
