Default What does High Output mean?

Well I was just wondering if what high output means, I have a 1997 Jeep Cherokee sport and wanted to know if I was equipped with a high output motor and tranny.

My jeep is a little loud by itself and is very quick if that means anything..

HO is the change from Renix to OBDII injection, this alone netted some extra HP from the 4.0 mill.
They also changed the head for better flow and this picked up a few more.
AFAIK all the 4.0's after Renix injection was retired became HO.

The injection like stated above was improved with the H.O., and also the throttle body is improved I believe. (Anyone verify this?)

Any Jeep with a 4.0 inline six built after 1991 has the high output engine.

no.. HEADS, plural. Many different kinds.
"different cam" should of been "different cams" Plural, once again. They changed a couple times too.

Silly question. It means that the crankshaft is about twelve inches higher off the ground than it is in most other vehicles - which we Jeep owners consider to be lower output, relatively speaking.

HO myth buster

Renix in 90 made 182 HP. HO in 91 made 190 HP. That's 8 HP difference.

HO only made more HP than Renix at higher RPMs and not a bit more torque. HO had a 58 mm throttle body versus a 52 mm throttle body on a Renix. That’s 20% more air available through the HO throttle body. The HO also had a better design header. See where I'm going with this?

It’s only a 4% horsepower increase…..

The whole 8HP was not mostly from the head, but from the bigger TB and better exhaust manifold.

Put a 60mm TB from www.strokedjeep.com on your present manifold using the Renix head, eliminate the "crush" in your headpipe with proper re-routing, and go for it.

HO stands for Highly Overrated.
