what did you pay for your xj?
well i bought mine 89 with my brother we each payed 250 for it with 166k miles, and it ran and drove great when we test drove it, and pretty much everything worked, except the right rear window didn't like to go up, and the body is pretty decent and the floors and whole underneath are pretty clean, then once I registered the day after i bought it, I went to test it capabilities off road, and i get on a hill and it stops driving. then the next day it doesn't start anymore....so what i thought was a really good deal, is now not too great unless both are easy fixes like think they are.

1996 SE traded a 91 Corsica which I got for free and drove through the winter, and $200. Drove it 100 miles to home with no issues. Very little rust top side, but needs some floor pan work.

HUH! interesting read here
a phrase comes to mind: "actual prices may vary..."
***********
I've traded my '96 VW golf GL with over 90K for '96 Sport with 200K. Some said that it was not the best "deal", but I could not be happier at the end
So far I've "invested" somewhat around $1,000 or so for new parts (brakes, radiator, injectors, sparks and bunch of other minor stuff) and a TON of time in it. ...and Counting ..seems, like never ending journey.
Lots of cleaning and "body" care behind as well.
The engine runs great , though...bang bang bang
keep posting, guys...
