Finally upgraded my headlamps to LED projectors. I have been very apprehensive due to liking the classic look of the glass ones. These are about 1,000 times better lol. My entire XJ has been converted to LED. I get free bulbs from Sealight so that made it much easier.

I have to finally change the radiator in my XJ. The crack has spread plus winter is coming.

I think I need to change my heater core. Turned the defrost on a couple times lately and my windshield fogged.

My big dread.

XJ's still not worth enough to have it done professionally &, s'far as I'm concerned what's behind the dash - stays there. Only realistic solution would be to bypass the heater & just learn to live without it.

If I wasn't so darn picky, I would do just that. Then again, it would be very hard to drive here in Indiana without a defroster.

So I tore out the dash and heater box today. I had heard some people didn't remove the steering wheel. I could not figure out how I could get the dash out without removing it. So I did.

Now I will clean everything I can get to while I wait for a new copper core heater core and an AC Evap core. May as well do that while I'm that deep, lol.

I think it's a harder job than some lead on. It was no easy task to remove all that stuff. Hope I can put it back together!

After that, I am thinking of selling it if I can get a new job possibility to materialize.

That almost seems like how it is with XJs. Engine blows, throw in a stroker or V8. Trans blows, swap it out. Break an axle, throw a new one under. Floor pan rusts through, weld in a new one. Heater core goes out, off to the scrapper.

They did all right, thought I would go through the whole pack just on the bumbers but it seems just one will do it
(Link deleted because forum did something)
I just searched stripping discs

Scamazon link (not affiliated)
Thanks,
Weird they sell the 4" and 5" versions together. I have a 4 1/2" grinder not sure the 5" would work and thus I'm buying something I couldn't use...

Yes, that is weird - 'cos the impression I got when shopping for another grinder was that 4 1/2" is the most common/popular.

I bought one of those discs, albeit for a drill, & was seriously unimpressed: it'd struggle to prepare gloss paint for repainting.

a drill may not have the speed that these need?

I got everything torn apart and am cleaning everything while I wait for the parts to arrive. I could not find a copper heater core locally.

Wouldn't think that you would be able to.
Thinking I couldn't even get one through my Napa.
In case you don't know.
The "foam" around the evap core is called reticulated foam.
And some of those foam gaskets on the heater box used to be available still last time I checked.
I remember a 3 pack. Thinking not all of them but at least some.
