PB, you should be very proud. That is a beautifully restored XJ. I especially dig the red accents. Well done!

Yes. I'm sorry. I knew it was a lousy picture when I posted it, was to lazy to go take another one, but I should have.
Speaking of which. So got everything prepped for the actual install. Black pipe and temp sensor set up in the water pump and the new thermostat housing.
I took my thread restorer tool to all bolts and holes in the block.
Cleaned up all the old gasket material with a razor and hit it with a blue cookie on my die grinder.
Vacuumed and hit it with my air gun.
Even cleaned up all that grease I found under the water pump when I removed it.
See the shot above with the broken stud.
Who knew there was a nice shiny timing chain cover under there. LOL.
Tomorrow will do the actual install. I did enough today.

So I got everything but the electric fan, the overflow tank hose, and anti-freeze in the radiator done.
I did not realize until it was to late but I should have positioned the black tube on the water pump better.
I duplicated what was on the old one. Or so I had thought I did.
After I buttoned everything up and started connecting hoses I realized how close that black tube is to the valve cover.
.022". I took my feeler gauge cause I was curious exactly how tight it was.
Thinking next time the valve cover comes off it might be a problem.
What do you guys think?
So I put the FelPro gaskets on dry. And as much as I wanted to anti-seize the water pump bolts, after snapping the top one, I did not.
Same for the thermostat housing.
I did throw some on the 2 bolts connected to the power steering pump.
Torqued everything according spec. In case anybody is interested for my '00 it is:
17 ft lbs for the water pump
15 ft lbs for the thermostat
20 ft lbs for the pulley.
35 ft lbs for the idler that tightens the belt.
Speaking of which my about 4 inches of the outside groove separated from the belt.
Bought it a Napa, rebranded Gates, 5 years ago and it has a lifetime warranty.
So I got a new one that I used my Krikit II to set at 180 lbs.
When I first got the Jeep I had to do the radiator. I did not realize that the tabs on the bottom of it had
those metal clips. So either I broke it or that one side was already busted.
Gluing it never really holds.
So I decided to buy one of those cheap Ebay ones. The cord is so much longer then factory. We will see how that works out.
But I do like how the plastic is molded at the bottom in place of those metal clips on the factory one.
Also, I don't know if you can see it in the pictures but the mounting points for each fan seem to be the same.
It looks like I could remove the Ebay fan from the housing and replace it with mine.
Mine works great which is why I have just been dealing with broken tab.
Forgot to take a picture of the belt before I defected it.

Looks pretty good to me,My fan has a broken tab ,I drilled a hole in it and put a cable tie wrap on. You wont have a problem if you need to remove the valve cover in the future, They are tight but the covers come straight up so clearance wont be a issue, Good job!
