"Did the same with mine.... I'm around too much water to have a "wet/dry" vac on my Jeep."
Makes sense then. My situation is opposite yours. A lot of dust. I clean and oil the K&N 3 times a year. It's time to do it again. Got to messing around out in the garage and found the OEM had a brand new filter still in it so..........

[QUOTE=Basslicks;3466120]Yeah I had a K&N in my Dakota - which didn't see much water or mud - and a K&N panel in my wife's 300m which - it better NOT see water or mud!
[/QUOT
I really wish we could keep our vehicles cleaned but where we live it's either dust, mud, ice,or snow.

Have you guys noticed the force of the suction into the OEM box intake opening when you first start the vehicle? Directly out in front of the opening maybe 5-6" if that right behind the headlight is a ~3"x4" opening. There was a plastic panel there but I removed it when I put the K&N in. I'm going to figure a way to install some kind of flexible duct work (thinking CJ heater duct work) in between so hopefully only cold air will come in.

Like this?
I've seen that pic before very innovative to say the least! You still running it? But no I'm at the opposite end of the box.
Dryer duct might be an option then. I'm going to check out the heater duct I got stashed from my CJ days. It's rectangular in shape already and varies in size depending on the year CJ.

Was that front end piece a separate part from the box or was the whole thing one piece?
Anyone want to take a guess as to why they still don't do that? Openings still in the box and in the header panel although it's got plastic piece covering it.

I'm going to guess that during heavy rains there might have been water getting up in there. But I know one thing, not only is that a cooler air source but I'll bet the pressure is increased up there by a pound or two going down the road. I noticed a difference when I connected my box to that port Earl.
To anybody that might care. My local corporate owned Napa is having a sale this weekend. Picked up a case of 5W30 and 10W30 for $1.49 a quart. 2 case limit. Gold 1085 oil filters are $3.85. Grabbed 4. Gold 6077 air filters are $5.75. Only bought one of those. I don't think there is a sale at privately owned stores and not even sure if it is all corporate stores nationwide.
