They are surface mount, only need to drill the holes for the bolts to go through. They are large though, about 4" in diameter and the loop is about 2". I will be mounting them on top of the carpet and once tightened down they should still offer a fairly smooth/flat cargo area for things that don't need to be tied down.

I got rained out today, started coming down on my way home from picking up my oil filter and oil so I wont be mounting them till next week now

go to a muffler shop and ask if they'll let you hear some samples. I know here they'll hold up different muffler so you can get an idea.

Since it's a nice warm day and I had a little time I took a look the air conditioner. It was low on freon, compressor cycling too rapidly to cool. I charged it back up and now it's working fine.

I poked around with my electronic leak detector and unfortunately it found nothing under the hood. ("Unfortunately" because anything under the hood would be easier to fix than you-know-what!) Hoses, fittings, condenser, even the compressor seal are tight.

On high sensitivity the detector did pick up a whiff around the vents and under the dash, so it seems likely that an evaporator replacement is in this XJ's future. I'll double and triple check before committing to that and if I do have to go in there would also replace the heater core at the same time. That's not a job I'd want to do twice!

I have to agree.

I stared at mine. This whole having surgery in a few weeks to RnR my elbow has me with cabin fever. I want to work on my jeep so bad, but also being on workmans comp kinda stops that lol.

If the engine or transmission on mine go, I'd probably replace them. If the heater core goes out, that maybe when I scrap the thing.

It's really not that bad of a job I did my heater core in my driveway in about 4 hours

Might be headed to the JY tomorrow. Looking to score on some rare items, maybe some skid plates too.
