On what? The jk's

The 2011 Saharas are great, very nice interior, all the options, and many even came with the rubicon springs and shocks

Quote: It sounds like the JK (Wrangler) is the favorite of the bunch. I'm interested in why you think a 2011 JK is so much better than a 2008-ish? They seem to look exactly the same. What changed in the current model year?

Also, while we're on the topic of 4-door wranglers, I had some questions about the trim levels. Obviously the Rubicon is the best, having the most clearance and the most off road capability, but it is mucho dinero. What do you think about the sport version? Would it be worth holding out for the Sahara or the Rubicon?

Is it worth spending extra for the hard top or is a cloth top just fine? What are some of the drawbacks of the cloth top, from those who also own a Wrangler?

Thanks for your input, everyone!

P.S. Nobody mentioned the Liberty. Are there any opinions one way or another?
Interior on the 11's is MUCH nicer, the windshield has some cool tint, soft top mounting is different, and the front brake lines are different.

That's about it.

For out of the box. Rubicon is miles ahead of Sahara....4:1tc, front and rear d44s with electric lockers, electronic disconnect sway bar, stiffer spring rate, better shocks.

Personally I like the soft top better, its not much louder than the hard top. But, the new desert tan color with a hard top on a 2 door is sexy on the 11's

If you have any other questions about the jk's let me know. I build about 3-4 of them a week.

Best Modern Jeep
Of course the best modern Jeep is the 89 Cherokee Laredo, ticks all the boxes on your requirements list.
My 22 year old Renix technology gets better mileage than my son in laws new Libby.
Of course since it lasts and lasts it will be the last vehicle you ever own.

hey, you have 3/4 of a tank of fuel there. how in the hell did you afford that? i'm lucky to squeeze in 20 bucks at a time nowadays.

i'd say a wrangler, either a jk (2dr) or tj LJ. go for the rubi for out of the box trail worthy.
or even the sahara, as most still have a d44 rear, but you have to look as some had the 35.

Ljs and jk's only came with a rear d44.

And with tj's the rear 44 came as in option in some packages, and standard with the rubi.

Edit: if that's what you were saying then my bad, I missunderstood your post

4.0 6speed LJ rubicon would be my choice if I was going for a 4.0 wrangler.

The WJ IMO, would not be a good choice if you ever plan on lifting. The rear suspension is crap and would need to be replaced with a standard 4 link to be worth a damn.

2011 jeep jk 4door rubicon. It's really nice it has lots of offroad capabilities. With the dana44 front and back and it has a really nice interior the jeep is stock ready for 33s and look real good when lifted. Plus you can always slap a supercharger on the motor!

True the rubi would be nice. And ya, they are crap for lifting but the OP never said anything about lifting. They're very capable in stock form. Throw some good tires on and maybe a lunchbox or two and you'll have a good combo.

x2 on this but I would get a 1990 because in 89 you might have a c101 connector
