I was wondering the same thing with the Accel kits. Do yourself a favor and get an Optima battery. Never let me down. It's 8 yrs old and still holds a great charge. 3rd vehicle it's been in also.

I have the red top. Never regretted it one time. My last XJ had a winch and 8 off road lights. Under hard pulls from the winch the lights dimmed a little. I'll never buy another battery besides an Optima.

When I got mine it was around $150. I don't know how much they cost now. It is well worth it.

Always ran accel in my 69 camaro (9.5:1, 6500 rpm shifts) no misfires, ran accel in the 1/4 mile oval Thundercar, (10:1, 6800 rpm at end of straight), no misfires, started hot, no ignition problems 2 seasons. My current supplier is telling me no accel for my 89 4.0L ??? hard time believing that. I really gotta get the straight scoop. Bottom line I really like the Accel products. Ran the red top Optima in the Thundercar (no alternator), ran practice, 3 heats and feature races, no problems. If I wasn't hustlin to fix a major I did put on the generator and bat charger befor the feature.

ok for the accel kits, do u hav to use the same u-groove plugs that u get with the kit? or another brand of plug when its time to change them. u-grooves are going up in price. and while using their hotter coil too.

I've had the Accel kit on mine for a couple months now. No complaints at all.

I installed the Accel kit in my '99 4.0. It's quality stuff- brass contacts on the cap and rotor, silicone insulated wires and Accel u-groove plugs. I know some swear by Champion, but I like the Accel plugs. For the price, I don't see how you can go wrong.

I prefer the factory MOPAR tune up kit and Odyssey batteries.
