Want to buy a welder
Ok people, I don't think this is really off topic and I see some signs of confusion about the whole welding current/amperage/household outlet scenario. A welder may claim to put out 140 or however many amps, but at what voltage? Voltage is necessary for proper penetration. A 115 volt outlet is good for about 15 amps. Total available wattage then is 1725 when you multiply volts x amps. Now, you want 100 amps of welding current, how much voltage does that leave? 17.25 volts. I referenced this in my previous post, without explanation, when I mentioned you should have the voltage at max and the feed at 3. That is because you need all the penetration you can get, and with the volts cranked you can only turn up the feed so much before you exceed the duty cycle and the weld is worthless. Feed and current go hand in hand, to clarify that point....
Someone said something about oxy-acetylene welding, and that's a fine idea for ultimate cheap, because not only can you weld you can cut! However, having said that...hardly anyone uses gas to weld anything other than exhaust, because frankly welding with electricity is a hell of a lot quicker, cleaner, better....umm modern? Back in the day all they had was gas. In fact, they even welded aluminum with gas. I assure you, that is about as difficult as it gets. I can weld soda cans together no big deal, but gas welding aluminum.....shiza.
