Want to buy a welder
I would like to buy a welder and i was wondering if anybody has bought and used any from harbor freight. I saw this one the other day when i was there and was wondering if anybody has used it. The only thing i would use it for is some body work and maybe building a tube bumper and and roof rack and stuff like that. http://www.harborfreight.com/welding...der-98871.html

I bought the HF Flux wire welder that you mention. Used it to replace my outer rocker panel and patch the inner rocker panel. It works very well and I would recommend it. I did buy some Lincoln wire and tips for it. Couldn't be happier. I paid $99 on sale and this month it's on an even better sale for $89.

i use the mig 151, i really like it, i learned on the 90 amp one and if i were u get the 151 mig, i had a discount for it, i build all my roof racks, rock rails, and bumpers out of it, here are some welds, takes practice, also you can upgrade some of the parts for it, here is the link to the upgrade
http://weldingweb.com/showthread.php?t=33848 here are pics of some of the welds http://i898.photobucket.com/albums/a...e/PB280053.jpg http://i898.photobucket.com/albums/a...e/PB280048.jpg gets great penetration also i made these tube doors with the 90 amp one http://i898.photobucket.com/albums/a...P8140022-2.jpg |
The harbor freight one you can get the replacement warranty for like 20 buck. Id say go that route for light use. If anything ever happens (2years) just take it back to store and get a new one.

I learned how to weld in high school i will need to practice a little though that was 6 years ago. Okay i think i will try to get one then i did see the 2 year replacement planned and i thought that was a really good deal.

I bought my stud welder there. And I know a bunch of people that got stuff from them and it held up extremely well for being priced low.

Well Ill take what you say into consideration. But could you explain why the weld wont hold up? They are suppose to weld up to 1/2 thick steal. What makes them cheap welds? |
Also can this plug straight into any garage outlet?
If so, wont that not put out enough amperage to weld fully? |

Skip cheap. With anything you do(for the most part). You will just end up replacing it in the long run. I have a Hobart 140. I would be leary of welding on very thick stuff like axles, but its reliable and you can run flux or mig. And it is 110(plugs into normal outlet)
