Am about to reinstall a rear bumper that has vibrated its way to destroying a couple of the nutzerts. Was looking to see whether lock nuts were anywhere as good as lockwashers in high vibration situations (like on a Jeep!) and came across this site http://www.boltscience.com/pages/vibloose.htm which has these two interesting pages on 1- lock washers http://www.boltscience.com/pages/hel...ingwashers.htm and 2 - the double nut situation http://www.boltscience.com/pages/twonuts.htm
From the science, Lock Washers are a waste of time and money, and actually SPEED up
the loosening process.
I had to replace the nutzerts on my rear struts 'cause they kept loosening up and breaking the bolts. Knocked out the nutzerts but could only get ahold of nyloc locknuts at the time (I was in Mexico), haven't had to touch them since!

I work in industrial maintenance and have never had an issue with lock washers or nylock nuts coming loose no matter what grade. Same on my rig.
