Default USPS Jeepster

Saw this old USPS Jeepster at the JY today. Really wish I could get it to fix up.

Most are only 2wd, but you can't kill those old mail Jeeps.

Giant aluminum and steel box on a 2wd CJ chassis...

BTW.. they were called DJ-Xx Depending on which CJ Chassis was used.

No more than any other Jeep can be.

If you find an Alaskan or export DJ.. you could have gotten 4wd and the world cab.

All those mirrors might be fun to try and use to navigate around obstacles though.

i'm thinking push-back doors. can see some benefit of that. dana 60-44 and a 401. would be very nice.

I thought about getting one years ago and went to an auction. They were all 2WD as most are but worse they were way overpriced and in bad shape.

Yeah, it's one of the 2wd DJ-5A's. Still awesome though. I wouldn't want to wheel it at all, just as a summer time cruiser. I think they're asking $1400 for it - WAY overpriced!

Holy Crud... I paid $100 for mine, cause it had a frozen throttle cable and a supposedly burnt spark plug...

In the mid to late 80's the USPS started getting rid of them as they were replaced by the LLV(long life vehicel). In my area, rural carriers could bid on them first. I would check the internet under rural carriers forums and see if you can find them for sale. I heard of several cases where rural carriers bought 2 of them for $300-$400 each and keep one for parts. MOst have probably bit the dust by now ,but you never know.
