Has anyone found one of these with d44 front and rear from the factory? Is this even an option? Someone I know claims theirs was a forest vehicle and has d44s factory

Never heard of that as an option. You should ask him for the build sheet.

I know it was pretty standard to get d44's on non-US cherokees like south america but havnt heard of it on anything in the US, can you get a build sheet from the VIN number or what is needed to get a build sheet?

I dont have a forest service cherokee but I do have a Cherokee with a Police Package in it which is what I believe you are calling a forest service cherokee but I could be wrong. I have the window sticker for mine too! Its a 1999. I picked it up with 76k about 4 months ago for just under 3k via municibid.com...I know have 80k on it and have loved every single minute of owning it. Its my first Jeep and its my baby. I'll never get rid of it! 10 years from now, it will be a designated trail rig. Anyhow, good luck with finding one as they are pretty hard to come by these days!

Sorry to resurect this thread again, I have a '96 XJ that used to be a patrol unit from the local sheriff's office. It has dual spotlights and mounts for the roof antennas. I got it from a sargent from the SO who bought it at auction. Not a single option except A/C, it's even a 5 spd. Love that thing to death, best car I've ever owned. As far as the D44 they did come with the original police package but the latter ones used the 8.25. Many agencies didn't use the police package, they just bought regular XJ's and outfitted them. I'll try to post up some pics of mine tomorrow.
