Default upgrading the camshaft

Here within the next couple of weeks I will be tearing into the engine to see what's wrong with it. Theres metal shaving in the oil, its shaking the whole jeep an at 2 -300 rpms above idle i hear grinding. I'm not sure exactly what it is but if by chance it the camshaft. What would be a good replacement for a little more power? I'm not want in to increase the HP a lot just some.

I have no personal experience with this but have read many happy reviews on this cam. It's mild enough to prevent the MAP from having vacuum issues at idle but profiled in such a way that it delivers improved torque and fuel economy compared to stock.

Lol I was just looking at that one about 45 minutes ago. Thinking I should call them and talk to someone about their cams.

After doing more research than necessary, I've decided to use the Mopar Performance cam in my mostly stock '99 4.0 rebuild. The biggest push for me to go Mopar was the wide cam lobes.

And installed with the Mopar timing kit and lifters.

Interesting, Jegs claims that particular cam is only good up to '98. Anyhoo, it's available here or here if you want to check it out, Country.

That is due to the introduction of the thrust bearing in the '99-'06 4.0 motors. You will also find that there are NO cams listed for a '99+ 4.0.

To run a pre '99 cam in a '99+ block, all you need is the pre 99 timing gear set, bolt, pin and spring. You should also check to make sure the timing cover has a dimple in it for the pin to ride on (my '99 cover did).

Thanks for the info. I've been looking on 505performance website and they have a stage 1 cam kit. The stage 1 can kit 263/265 includes cam lifters timing set pushrods cambolt. This is the only kit that works with stock valve springs. But I can't find any specs on this kit. Unfortunately I'm having to use my phone to look up stuff right now.
