HELL YES!!!

The (stock) intakes on the XJ's are directly behind and at the level of the headlights. Factor in such things as movement in the water as well as plunge angle you could bet your life you'll drown your baby.

Before going into the wet stuff that deep I would first check to make sure no electrical connections are loose or exposed, your body is free of rust holes and the doors seal watertight. Oh yeah...and you have a snorkel! You drown out in the water and it's pretty much game over.

With the two XJ's I had I never went deeper than than the bottom of the headlights when I could help it. Now granted there were times when the water was deeper than I thought but I would always err on the safe side and try to NOT kill the engine. Your best bet would be to look at the intake and kinda get a feel for how deep you would feel safe with.

Your best bet is to start out slow and slowly ease into more and more severe conditions. With time you'll become familiar with how your Jeep responds to certain conditions and terrain and how to handle it in each of those circumstances. Be sure to take lots of pics! There's nothing quite like your first few times out on the trail!

Just a few things- ALWAYS check ahead, especially since you say your new, before you go so much as an inch ahead, make sure you walk it first, picture where your wheels are going to be, look back at the Jeep, see if it seems something may get hit, ease into it at first, do things very mild. Also- ALWAYS BRING A SPOTTER, very important, that can make the difference between driving home with a mud-covered XJ, and riding the tow truck home. Over time, you'll learn more and more, even be able to take on a few stuff without getting out or needing a spotter, but take it easy for now, climb under there, see where everything is so you can know about how far everything is from the ground.
Just my 2 cents. And always remember the number one most important rule of wheeling- have fun out there.
