U-Bolts
The other day I was replacing my gas tank heat shield and tail pipe hanger due to rust. Look at this pic. Luckily my frame rail under the heat shield only had minor rust, which I sanded off and POR-15'd.
Waiting on new heat shield from the dealer. Got the new hanger from the dealer already.
Well, while dicking with the heat shield I found this nut (pics) on the driveway next to the right rear tire.
Look at how it sheared off. You can see the rust line in the shear area from a crack that was there.
I looked all over the right rear suspension and couldn't find out where it went. So I looked at the left rear suspension and there it was. The nut sheared off the inner U-Bolt.
I've never run into this before. The Heep only has about 136K miles on it, but I have real stiff shocks and have been driving over these pot-holed Michigan roads and it really rattles my cage when I hit a pot hole. Maybe the shock from hitting pot holes sheared the U-Bolt [?].
I have new U-Bolts and nuts on order from the dealer. I will change the right side U-Bolts as a precaution.
